For a legit box jump, the hips must travel at least as high as when standing straight up on the box.
CrossFit.com posted this pic for today's wod and it has some real meaning. There are a lot of athletes who cut this range of motion short. They jump onto the box but land with bent knees, which is normal, but then fail to fully extend the hips and knees before leaving the box and hitting the ground (the keep the knees slightly bent the whole time).
Have someone film you doing about 30-40 box jumps as well as a short period of time of where you're standing straight up on the box motionless. Compare the two. What's it look like at rep 10? Rep 30? Rep 45-50?
